Boater Safety

Town of North Hempstead Bay Constable: 516-869-6311

As a Village of boaters, it is important to always be safe on the water. The Village has connected with Pete Prudente from the Manhasset Bay Sportsman Club to provide some safety tips and boater information.

When operating a boat, you must have:

  • A flotation device for every person on your vessel – and children must be in an appropriate size life jacket at all times
  • Current dated safety flares or emergency lighting device
  • Emergency sound device such as air horns
  • Current dated first aid kit
  • Current dated inspected fire extinguisher

As of 2025, New York State has mandated all boat owners complete a required boater safety class and be issued a Safety Card.

The Safety Card does NOT expire.

Coast Guard Auxiliary Boater Safety Course is being offered for residents in 2025 at the following locations on the following dates:

Manorhaven Village Hall

Saturday, February 15th

Saturday, March 8th

Saturday, March 22nd

Each class is limited to 20 people and the cost is $60 per person.

The class will run 9am-5pm with a 45-minute lunch break.

You can bring own lunch/refreshments for option if class elects to continue the curriculum without a lunch break.

Call Pete Prudente at 516-606-0014 or email pwpete@icloud.com for more information and to reserve your preferred date.

We wish everyone a safe boating season.
