Dear Residents and Business Owners,

Fall has arrived and cold weather is just around the corner. I’d like to take this opportunity to get residents up to date on how a few projects are moving along, on upcoming events, seasonal parking reminders and grant applications.

First, a “Thank You” to those who were able to join us last month for the “Celebrate Manorhaven Day” ribbon cutting, and our very moving 9/11 Ceremony at Village Hall. We as a Board feel it’s important to come together as a community to celebrate good times and show respect during times of commemoration.

During the last issue, I discussed several projects that would be getting underway this fall. Not only have we accepted a bid for the sewer pump station generator installation and upgrades, but also accepted a bid for the repair of the sewer lines on Hickory and Juniper Roads. A bid packet is currently being prepared for the Recreational Pathway Project in the Preserve which will begin in the spring of 2023. A first phase will include ADA compliant pathways. We are also assessing sewer repairs on Mohegan Ave (note that all phases of sewer work will be followed by paving work.) We have also begun fall planting of new trees throughout the Village, and we are awaiting final touches on the boulevard such as two bus shelters and plantings. We recently submitted a grant application to FEMA to try to obtain funding to address serious drainage problems on Orchard Beach Blvd. We are hoping to hear if those efforts will bring good news to our Village. We will also be submitting another grant application in the spring for Phase II of the Recreational Pathway Project.

Plans for the snowplowing season are in place! Alternate Thursday and Friday parking ends on December 1 at midnight and the Village’s emergency snow parking season begins. With this in mind, it’s very important to keep up to date on snow announcements. If you have not signed up for our Village “CODE RED” emergency messages, for phone, email or text messages, please create an account as soon as possible by clicking the link on our homepage at manorhaven.org. Residents and businesses should note a few upcoming events: Toys for Tots Collection from November 7 to December 9, and our Annual Tree and Menorah Lighting event on Friday, December 9 at 6:30 p.m. We will be serving light refreshments, have songs of the season, and a few surprises for the children. Please continue to contact us with any concerns. We are proud of our community and every suggestion helps us better serve our residents!

Happy holidays and all the best,

Mayor John S. Popeleski

Dear Residents and Business Owners,

I hope all have been enjoying the wonderful summer weather we’ve been having on Manhasset Bay! The newly appointed Board of Trustee members, Village Clerk, attorney and I are settling in and getting ready to dive into several upcoming projects that I’d like to share with you.

First, I’d like to say thank you to Delia Deriggi-Whitton, to Nassau County, and the Manorhaven Blvd. restoration team for funding this project, and for the amazing transformation that has taken place on our main street and business district. In recognition, we’ve decided to hold a “Celebrate Manorhaven Day” on the boulevard on September 10, from noon to 3, with a ribbon cutting at 1:00 p.m. Please join us for our mini street festival with food, vendors, DJ Tom Giovenco, face painting, and Annabelle the Clown. Please note that Manorhaven Blvd. will be closed between the blocks of Dunwood and Firwood Roads between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day and parking will be blocked off the evening before the event. The following day, Sunday, 9/11 at noon, we will hold our annual 9/11 Ceremony at Village Hall to commemorate the fallen, the heroes, and families who lost loved ones on 9/11.

As I mentioned, the Village has several projects that will be in full swing this fall, a few include: sewer pump station updates and safety installations on the building at Pequot and Sintsink West; sewer line repairs and repaving on Hickory and Juniper Roads; sewer line repairs on Mohegan Ave. followed by repaving on that road and the intersection on Sagamore Hill Drive; dead tree and brush clean-up on Sintsink East; continued work on FEMA plans to address the drainage crisis on Orchard Beach Blvd.; and resuming work on the Preserve pathway project.

The Board is also considering a few local law changes this fall including: no building or construction on Saturdays; no overnight parking of commercial vehicles on Manorhaven Blvd.; updated trash receptacle regulations for all commercial businesses on Shore Road and Manorhaven Blvd.; later summer closing times for Morgan’s Dock Park, and more.

I hope residents and businesses will join us on “Celebrate Manorhaven Day” and on 9/11, and will continue to contact us with concerns and suggestions to help us make Manorhaven a community that we can all be proud of.

All the best,

Mayor John S. Popeleski
